Hi, I have a large object scrolling across the screen, I would like to have multiple flares flashing that are linked to the motion of the object. Problem is when I pick whip each flare to object, the flares obviously default to the anchor point of the layer. Is there an expression to offset where on the object the light source location locks to or a better method to do this?

    Thanks!

You can create an Expression and then add an offset value to each flare’s position property (not the transform position property).

    Something similar to this –
    (value[0]+200,value[1]+50)

FWIW, Parenting may seem to be the easiest but since flares have their own position parameter, Parenting will almost always lead to the flares being cut off – unless the flare layers are sufficiently large.

Pickwhip the position of the layer like you did, but before pressing ‘enter’ add ‘ +value ‘ to the expression.

This will add the value of the parameter the expression is applied to. You can now re-position the flare as you like, and it will still move with the other layer.
