Multiple fcpx bundles growing
Last week I spent hours and hours going through my videos throwing stuff away that seemed to have generated multiple copies here there and everywhere taking up nearly all of my hard drive and leaving me no space to work.
This took forever as I had to open each and every various copy of each and every video to check if it was a keeper or a binner.
However after much time and effort I did managed to claw back around 650 gigabyte of space.Having decided not to get in such a pickle again I set off on my next project determined to be more in control of the files I was creating.
The project was called ‘Lucinda’ and was a three minute edit of a girl on a horse.
At one stage I mucked up the edit and got things very out of sync with the music so I resorted to using one of the backup files from the fcpx backup folder to rectify the situation.
This worked very well and apart from that the editing was normal and I seemed to be in control with only the one fcpx bundle showing in my movies folder and a few backup files in my backups folder.
I continued working and making more editorial changes up to completion.
Today however when I went into my finder and opened up my movies folder I found there were two back up folders, one with 15 back up items and one with 5 backup items, plus in my movies folder there were 4 copies of the “LUCINDA” video, one @ 9.6 gig , one @ 33.9 gig one @ 200.47 gig and one @ 8gig.
How can so many copies at such different sizes be generate from one 3 minute video and how is it possible to keep control of this seemingly random generation of multiple copies. If I continue to tweak the edit how many more copies will there be and how much more time will I have to spend going through all the various versions to find out which to keep and which to throw away.
Is there a way to control this. Any help and advice appreciated.
