is there a way to apply alternate default transitions, so that I can apply a 4, 6 or 8 frame dissolve dissolve each with one keyboard shortcut.

it’s kind of laborious to go in to effects and change the default transition manually each time. Or is there an easier way of changing the default transition?

    Yes.

Add a dissolve to a cut, then double click on it and make it as long as you want. Then drag it from the Viewer into your FAVORITES folder.

Then go into the Custom keyboard setup and map FAVORITE TRANS #1, #2 and #2 to whatever key you want. Almost all my F-Keys are mapped.
