When I launch AE, I get an error message that I have multiple copies of a plug-in, and that I should delete or move them. Trouble is, I have searched my entire drive and only come up with one plug-in (Trapcode’s Shine) listed. Is there something I can do or should I just reinstall AE?

Assuming you’re on OSX (you didn’t say):

There are multiple copies, actually. The extra one lies in the AE package on OSX. Ctrl-click on the AE app’s icon in the applications folder, then choose “show package contents”. The extra plug should be in the MacOS folder therein, in a “Plug-ins” folder.

Yes, I’m on OS X, actually Tiger, so when I used Spotlight to find any additional versions of the plug-in, it didn’t find it. I just deleted the plug-in in the package contents and problem solved. Thanks.

I’m having issues with BCC 6 which I upgraded from BCC5. I get the same error message and looked in the package contents as suggested and can’t find any of the many plug-ins after effects is saying have multiple copies. Any help?

There are most likely both BCC 5 and BCC 6 plugs installed into the Media Core folder. Look in the folder paths below and remove BCC5 if you find them:

    Mac:

    Mac HD>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Common>Plug-ins>>MediaCore

    PC:

    C:\Program Files>Adobe>Common>Plug-ins>>MediaCore

Thank you for the tip. After repeated searching, I was finally able to find the duplicate fxfactory plugins in the MediaCore folder you mentioned.
