Using FCP 6, I moved media over from one drive to another and when I reconnected the multiclips to the moved media, they lost sync. I created the multiclips using AUX TC. Any ideas?

I’m having the same issue. I have four Machines… two mac pro’s and two G5’s that have the same exact Software and Updates (Using FCP6). They also each have internal scratch volumes that have an exact clone of the source footage. When I copy the project file from the main machine where I created all the MultiClips to the other machines, open and reconnect to the local media… the MultiClips no longer are in sync. However, if I re-create them… they are fine.

I created AUX TC 1 (to match on camera timecode slate before each take) and sync’d using this. Some of my shots have up to four cameras and I cannot find any consistency in how they are out of sync. For example, one three camera take may have B and C only off by a couple of frames but A is off by over 2 seconds. The next shot, they may all be off. It’s weird. I tried to re-create the MultiClip using the other options… Tiimecode, In Point, Out Point, and none of them even remotely resemble what I’m left with after the copy. However, if I re-create the clip using AUX TC 1 again, it’s fine.

I attempted to export XML from the master machine, then import on the others to see if it made a difference and it crashes Final Cut. I then tried exporting XML and then using text edit I ran a find and replace to alter all the targets for the source footage to match the machine I was going to hoping to bypass the re-connect, but that crashed Final Cut as well when I tried to import.

I really need to be able to pass updated project files to editors, but I can’t have them re-create 100’s of multiclips everytime. Apple needs to address this quickly!

Anyone else have any workaround ideas?

There is another thread about this topic on Apple Discussions… I just posted a temporary workaround.
