I am having a problem with multiclip playback in FCP, and have gone through lots of attempts to fix.

    Here’s my story:

    1. Started out with a 4 camera HD shoot (R22 HQ)
    2. Created Timecoded multiclip
    3. Playback stuttered after a few seconds of playback, although it was being played from a three-drive SATA RAID array
    4. Transferred all footage into a proxy version in H.264, hoping lower data rate would enable smooth playback
    5. H.264 wouldn’t play back multiclip at all, now, the canvas plays back while the multiclip is completely frozen. The image updates when playback stops.
    6. Thinking this might be because of the H.264 codec, I generated a ProRes 422 (proxy) version of footage, re-linked, and it still is doing the same thing.

    “Multiclip Playback” is enabled.

    Any ideas?

You should be getting better performance with ProRes proxy. H264 will not work at all.

Download AJA System Test from aja.com and check your drive speed. Something may be wrong with your RAID.
