I am trying to determine the best way to edit a 15 minute video with a 2 camera shoot. The cameras don’t have the exact same timecode just the same hours, and are synched together by a clapper slate at the beginning of each take. I let the cameras roll with out stopping so I wouldn’t have to synch too many times in the edit.
I went out & upgraded to FCP 5 to utilize the multiclip editing which started out great. I made multiclips of my A&B cameras using in points on the clapper. worked perfectly. When I edit into sequence using multiclip editing I realized I can’t change just the audio only. Looked in the manual and it says you can only do that with Sequenced Multiclips! Can’t do that because I don’t have matching TC.
To make a long story short, what is the best way to link the A&B rolls at the same time. Especially because I made many subclips of each interview on the A camera.
    Sorry for the long description.
    FCP 5
    G5 2ghz
shoot was 2 HDV cameras (footage looks fantastic)

seems like theres no problem switching audio only, as long as you want to switch all the audio. looking at the manual, it looks like the limitation is on switching only specific tracks, within the multiclip.

i think you’re probably already on the best track for your two camera edit. use the features of multiclip as best you can. take all the audio when you need to change audio source only, then collapse your edit and go in and tweak as needed.

You can’t just change the audio on a multiclip. It must be a multiclip sequence which I can’t do becasue I don’t have matching timecode.

thats wierd … from the manual:

In a Browser clip, all items are always linked. Therefore, when you open a Browser
multiclip in the Viewer, all of the active audio items of the multiclip must come from
the same angle. Although you can switch video and audio items separately in a
    Browser multiclip, you can

allright Andy, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was trying to change the audio in the sequence instead of in the viewer. When I activate all audio in the multiclip in the bin then switch the audio from angle 1 to 2 in teh viewer in changes it in the sequence. The manual is terrible in explaining multiclips.

    cheers for the update.
i think multiclip shows a lot of promise, but there does seem to be quite widespread trouble with using it. its something new to master.

if anyone is just jumping in on the new multiclip features, theres actually a pretty good basic tutorial over at Ken Stones excellent website

i reckon i’ve pretty much nailed the browser multiclip now …. but the sequence multiclip, man, i didn’t even know it existed till you mentioned it (and i’m supposed to be demoing it on Thursday! looks like i’ve got some work to do)

    best
    Andy
