  • multiclip edit shift timecode.

    Hi,

I have a mulitclip edit with 3 cameras. 1 camera has the complete duration of the event as a wideshot, while the other 2 cameras contain the 1st and 2nd half of the event.

    The problem I have:

The shots don’t have timecodes in sync so when creating the multiclip I have synced the wideshot and second half camera with outpoints, and placed all 3 clips in a multiclip. This has completely knocked out the footage of the first half of the event. The problem I have is shifting the first half camera footage using the shift+control. Is there any way to shift say in minutes rather than frames?

Maybe I’m not reading your post right, but I’d make two multiclips.
One would have cam 1 and 2, then the other would have 1 and 3.
Use the in point for both. Then just load the multiclip you need.
Remember, multiclips are just references to your footage.
You can make as many multiclips as you want with the same or
    different cameras.

I said use the in point for both multiclips, but maybe it would be better
to use the outpoint for your second multiclip. This way you’d have
all of cam1 and then cam3 would start up where cam2 left off on the
    previous multiclip.

So I would have to place 2 multiclips in a timeline, for the final edit?

    > So I would have to place 2 multiclips in a timeline, for the final edit? < Affirmative. You cannot use a single multiclip because your sources are not congruent. It is a requirement of the feature that there exisxts a common sync point among all clips in the multiclip. If your second half of the show was to be dubbed to a another tape that was black for the first half, you would have three clips that all have the same start point and they could be synced. Or you could dub your first half tape to have black for the second half and sync them all to their end points. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

There is a problem when placing both multiclips on one timeline. How would I intergrate both clips for a live edit via the ‘Open’ setting. I can create a multiclip with all three clips, no problem 2 in sync 1 not (the first half). I know I can press ‘shift+control’ to shift this clip, but it would take forever. Surely there is a way of shifting the clip in minutes rather than frames, or is it a lost cause?

Here again, maybe we aren’t communicating.
You said you have one tape that is the entire event, let’s call it cam1
And you have another tape that is the first half, let’s call it cam2
Then you said you have a third tape that’s the second half, call it cam3.

You make a multiclip with ONLY cam1 and cam2, using inpoints.
Then you make another multiclip with ONLY cam1 and cam3, using outpoints.

Load the first multiclip into the viewer.
Then hit the insert or overwrite button to put it on your sequence.
Edit away, using open if you want.
When you get to the point in your show where you lose cam2,
you now load in the second multiclip in the viewer, put an input
in your sequence, hit overwrite to put all of that multiclip
on your sequence, then hit open and edit away. No?
