MultiCam/Excalibur 5
Posted by Steve Edwards on December 3, 2007 at 6:31 amIs there any reason that when I add Excalibur to the toolbar , that when you do the add/remove (from the configure tool bar)thing that what I see in the dropdown choices are Excalibur, then cam1a/cam1b/cam1c/cam1d/cam2a etc? When I watch the video on Excalibur, the toolbar just shows for cameras – 1/2/3, for the 3 tracks, not any a/b/c/d/? Also, once I do the render, my icons disapear from the toolbar. They are still there, but the icons are gone. Only way you know that they are still there, is to put the mouse on top of them and that highlites them, but they are transparent.

December 3, 2007 at 3:47 pmYou can add whichever icons you want to the toolbar. You can pick as many or as few of the icons you wish. Here’s what the “abcd” means:
A: Dissolve happens “A”fter the cursor
B: Dissolve happens “B”efore the cursor
C: you get a “C”ut
D: Dissovle is a standard dissolve centered over the cursorAs for the disappearing icons, that’s a Vegas issue. You *may* be able to resolve it by doing a Tools – Scripting – Rescan Script Menu.

December 3, 2007 at 4:31 pmEd, Also I was wondering something. I have put all my media and audio on their respective tracks. Everything is synced up. How can I go from here with Excalibur? The one track has several clips to it, and if I use the progam the way it describes, I end up having seven track by using “Create project” button in Excalibur. I don’t want to jepordize having to do the re-syncing.

December 3, 2007 at 4:44 pmGet the clips synced (as you have). Make sure the tracks are numbered correctly (1 for the first video/audio, 2 for the second video/audio…). Now simply run the SYNC tool. That will create the PIP views and get you ready to use the camera switches. Without any markers, the Sync tool will NOT move any of your clips so they’ll remain in sync.

December 3, 2007 at 5:15 pmOkay, hopefully one (maybe) last question. I had done this once and backed up to where I used the “edit remove script”.
Although I did that, I also did a “remove from project” any files that aren’t being used. That removed the tally file. Which is okay, but it also left the multicam screen on my other monitor, even though I wasn’t in Excalibur anymore, and when I ran Excalibur again last night, I have no tally on the monitor when choosing which camera. Sorry for so many questions, but I surely appreciate all your feedback. I know it is me, not the program. I guess until I know your program forward and backward, all I can do is ask for help. I appreciate you patients. -

December 3, 2007 at 5:24 pmProper sequence of events:
1. Put video from the various camera on the timeline (or select the various camera angles and use the “Create Project” option)
2. Make sure the tracks are numbered correctly. (Create Project will do that for you)
3. If you wish it to help sync, add the sync markers on the timeline. Otherwise, just manually sync the clips. Then run the “SYNC” tool which will create the PIP views and add the proper additional tracks to the project.
4. Use the camera switch as desired.
5. Run “Multi-Cam” to create the final master track.
The sequence is demonstrated in the video at https://www.jetdv.com/excalibur if you want to take a look at that video.

December 4, 2007 at 5:59 amI think I have got it. I have the tracks in the following positions: Track #1 – Master track (Tally))
#2 – the Pip View
#3 – is the overlay track
#4 – #1 Video track
#5 – #1 Audio track
#6 – #2 Video track
#7 – #2 Audio track
#8 – Master track (looks like a video trk)
Track 8 is empty at the moment, and seems to be a video track. Track #1 (which is currently the Tally, says Master Track, and seems to be a video track also.
Sound like everyting is kosher at this time? I have presently put in about a dozen markers, and was wondering if I have to finish installing all the markers at this time, or can I shut down/close Vegas & continue this later, and if so, what is the procedure for continueing putting in markers at a later point? And can I still do color correction at this point, or should I have done it before I got this far?
Thanks alot Ed!!! -

December 4, 2007 at 4:42 pmYep, I see one event, about 28 minutes into the project. Can I still do color correction? And can I do a regular split and crossfade this far into the project, or should I have done all these things before? Will the crossfade move all tracks if I grab the top track, and leave everything still synced? I am almost done with the project, just the things listed above, then to the multi cam button. Then I just do a normal render, rights?
Thanks so much. -

December 4, 2007 at 4:51 pmColor correction would typically be done on the event before running Multi-cam. After multi-cam is run, you can either do it on the event and re-run multi-cam or just apply the color correction to the media in the Project Media.
If you want crossfades instead of cuts, you would use the dissolve camera switches instead of the cut camera switches (“D” switches instead of “C” switches). The camera switchs could be changed now and then re-run mult-cam or you can just go to each one you wish changed, put the cursor on the cut, and press “/” on the numeric keypad.

December 4, 2007 at 4:57 pmWhat I was refering to about the crossfade was, I have about 5 minutes that I could cut totaly out, and was just wondering if I can do a normal 2 splits/delete/ and crossfade the left and right back together, without messing anything up.
