Multicam Video
I just finished editing a 2-camera wedding ceremony segment in SVP 12 that my colleagues shot for me. I first attempted to use the Excalibur method, but it did not work well for me so I instead used the native Vegas process. It went extremely well and was a smooth process. My question, though, is how the software chooses the audio track to use. Honestly, I am not sure if it mixed the tracks from each camera or just chose the louder of the two audio tracks, as I really did not pay attention to nor was I even thinking about the audio as I was editing this segment. Can someone expound on this so that I can get a better understanding of how this works? Thanks in advance.

It places all of the audio in a single event as takes. When you switch cameras it does not affect the audio at all. Just use the “T” key to select the take that you want to use as the master audio track.

not quite in topic but about multicamera, just want to share. i ve heard so much about how hard nuts avchds are… i am a bit surprised. this is my first meeting with avchd. i have 40 minutes project on my timeline and it is multicamera editing. so i had two cameras avchd and one mxf, all medias full hd with highest bitrates. it all goes so smooth on my laptop. during multicamera editing it stutters a bit but not so bad that i had to make any proxies… i love sv10 🙂

MXF edits extremely smoothly in Vegas Pro. It is the perfect HD format to use with Vegas Pro.

i know, i know, that is why i ‘ve chosen that camera. i have 50 mbps, 422 mpeg video+wave audio and i can shoot for any tv. mxf editing perfectly as a native format for svp. for just cutting and without fx it doesn’t even re-encode the streams. just love it!!!

oh, it is xf100 by canon. perfect for reportages, travel etc. only 1 sensor but the picture is impressively good. small but very handy. i wish it would have more possibilities about dof but that is the price for its size.

i don’t like avchd either tho i have no issues with editing. i only hear the fan working more 🙂
yes, it shoots mpeg2 50 mbps, 422. i ve seen many small cameras called pro but that one really fits pro standards. ive heard that it is commonly used in big tv stations, even bbc as a second camera. so small, not so fresh (2011?) but so up to date and very powerful, equipped even with IR!!!. and so reasonably priced. i love it. if you seek for a small reportage camera take a close look at that one.
