Having a sync issue in multicam, and I dont know if its the way the footage was shot or an editing issue. I have shot and edited this way many times without incident.

I record a live show, using a TriCaster switcher. When recording is done, I have a program file (the show that has been “edited” live with the Tricaster) and a raw footage file from each camera angle.

I have 3 camera angles and each video file/camera angle has a different length. In Premiere, I set an in and out point on each camera angle and the recorded program and each file…

    – Begins at the same timecode / visual reference point where the talent is blinking
    – Is set at 29.97 fps
    – Ends at a different timecode (the out point is set at the same reference point, a frame where the talent is blinking.
    – Is a different length, varying within 2 seconds from the same in point to out point.
    o Camera 1 has a length of 28:17:17
    o Camera 2 has a length of 28:16:16
    o Camera 3 has a length of 28:16:17
    o Program has a length of 28:18:16

I’m doing a multicam edit and the shots are way out of sync. The sound and video are in sync within each camera angle, but the different angles are not lining up.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you.

    Eddie,

What model of Tricaster do you have? In later models, there’s a tick mark under the clock menu that says something like sync for non linear editing.

Also, if you feed black burst to gen lock Tricaster and cameras it will be locked.

Something else to check – the PROGRAM file format recorded in TC will match the SESSION settings, for instance “1080i” or whatever you were using. However, the ISO recordings of each camera will be in the format the camera was outputting, so if 24p then the recording would be 24p for example so I wonder if all 4 of your files match or if there are any variances that would account for the sync issues?

    Thanks
