MultiCam Issue
Hi…
We are attempting to do a multicam shoot- 2 cameras but two run thrus on the same peice to make it look like it has 3 or 4 cameras on it…
I say its a nightmare in terms of sync etc if they dont get the words/movements exactly the same in both takes…
Others think you just put a cutaway in and the other take with audio and everything will be ok.
Am I right???

Well, almost all drama is shot with just one camera…
It can be done, just don’t think a multicam project will get you there, you have to edit normally…
(meaning, select all best takes / best angle, line everything up, trim to the correct pace & cut points, depending on taste…)Bouke

Bouke is correct. You will have more material with several angles to choose from. However, you should not expect that every take and every line will have 4 cameras to choose from. Actors, even good ones, will not have every body part in the same place for both takes.
Cut the audio as your base. Timing/pace all the things that Bouke mentioned above. Then go back in and add other video cuts. Sometimes you will find you can replace audio and video from a different take and get the same feeling but allow you to match lips, etc.
I’ve done this sort of thing over the years and the concept is to speed up production and allow more creativity in the edit suite. Sometimes this works. You also have to set up the camera angles very carefully so you aren’t duplicating the shot one take to the next. Plan this all out. You don’t need a CU on actor 1 or WS for both takes. Plan it out. Give your camera men scripts with shot selection marked on the script.
