Hi guys thanks for taking the time for reading the post.

    Here’s the problem.

I import two files that I shot with two different cameras. They have the same resolution, codec and frame rate. I then create a multicam sequence drag in into the view.

It shows two cameras perfectly synced. I changed it from sync to open and then I click on the overwrite button. It places it into the time line and everything appears fine. This is where it gets weird.

I go play the video to switch from one camera view to the other and the problem is it plays the chosen camera in the canvas but the two camera angles in the viewer don’t move until after I’ve pressed the pause button.

So they will start where the timeline is, I press play and they won’t move. Then after I press pause they both move to that frame, so I know it’s keeping track.

So I can’t switch on the fly because they’re not tracking where the timeline is.

I’ve been looking for a solution for sometime now but found nothing.

    Here’s my mac specs too.

    Mac OS X 10.6.4
    Processor. 3.06GHz Intel core duo
    Memory. 8GB DDR3

Have you checked that the sync is open still? Once I see that the clips are synced I simply drag the multiclip sequence from the browser to the timeline. Then double click on the clip on the timeline to load it in to the viewer, set the sync to open, do all the settings (video only/ video and audio etc) then whilst I have the timeline selected hit the space bar and then click on the clips in the viewer to make my edits.

I think your issue is that you are selecting open sync THEN dragging to the timeline, you need to put the clip on the timeline first THEN set open sync.

I hope I’ve read your post right and that what I’ve written solves your problem.

Thanks Francis but it didn’t solve the problem. I’ve watching the Lynda.com explanation on multicam and I’m doing it the way they sugguest.

So I drag it into the timeline, double click and select open. I can tell it’s loaded right due to the sprockets in the viewer. Now in the viewer I see both cameras and I press play. The selected camera will appear in full view in the viewer making me unable to see the two cameras. Now when I press pause it goes back into multicam.

The only thing I noticed that’s different between the lynda.com video is he didn’t have to render but I do.

Is “Multiclip Playback” selected in the RT drop-down menu?

It’s not giving me an option to select multiclip. But I did notice something.

These videos I’m working weren’t done using log and transfer. I’m working on another clip at the moment too that was done using log and transfer, I went into RT and there was a multiclip option.

The clips I’m working on were .MTS but I didn’t have the AVCHD so I had convert them in toast and then import them.

I’m thinking we could be onto something here.

You should not have to render anything after your edit. After you have done your multiclip edit, you then go to Modify>Collapse All Multiclips. Then you wont have to render, sometimes I select the entire multiclip edit and then collapse them just to make sure.

As for .MTS, I have no experience with AVCHD but as I understand it FCP7 will read them fine you don’t need to convert it. Even FCP6 will read them apparently, also any conversion should be to a quicktime file as that is what FCP loves the best. Also using Toast to convert is awful (I bet that is the issue), if you have compressor use that for all converting it is a great program.

Perhaps try with some other footage of a different format from another project (that you have not converted with Toast) and see if you still have the same problem. If you do then it is not your footage and your install of FCP is broken somewhere, reinstall.

Thank you guys for all you input, found a solution.

So here was the problem. The footage I was working with was converted using toast and even though it had the same codec, ratio and frame rate it wasn’t enough.

If you want multicam you have log and capture your footage not convert it somewhere else. The reason I was converting somewhere else was because I didn’t have the AVCHD data on my Cannon card only the .MTS files that were saved to the desktop, this was causing the problem.

    Thanks again.

So, I have the same problem. So, if I didn’t “log and capture”, I just dragged my files into FCP, then i’m stuck? Nothing I can do? I don’t have the camera that we shot on. Just the files. It was a Canon 7D
