  • MultiCam edit with more than 4 cams

i am about to shoot a live music concert with 9 cams.
will also shoot a rehearsal, with 8 or 9 cams.

the show is almost 2 hours long.

i did this last year and manually edited 18 tracks of video, took a long time, but looked nice.

anyone done a multicam edit with more than 4 cams?
is there a plugin for premiere that does more than 4?

i have premiere pro CS3 for mac and PC.

    thanks!

Multicam edit is nice for an interview with 2 or 3 camera’s and insert material.
For a concert with 4 camera’s it is very difficult to switch to another camera exactly on the music. So you need a lot of time to make corrections after the multicam edit.
I advise you to edit the concert with 9 camera’s manually. It is time consuming indeed, but you have a lot more control on the process and less corrections.
Tip: Create a temporary picture-in-picture screen of all tracks so you can see all camera’s during editing.

    Good luck

Are all your cameras manually controlled or do you have any locked off? I often do 6-cam edits with 2 fixed-cams so I can multi-cam edit in CS3 on the 4 manned-cameras, then 2 other tracks (above the multi-cam edit) that are turned invisible until I need to cover bits where my multi-cam wasn’t wanted.

I’d recommend this method as I actually find it easy to cut the multi-cam edit on the beat so it’s much quicker than manually editing 6 cameras (or 8 or 9).

Happy to give more advice if you want it.
