Multicam edit to After Effects via Dynamic link?
Have been reading old posts on this problem I’m having without finding an answer.
I’ve made a multicam edit using greenscreen files (mp4). I put all the green screen angles into a sequence called “SyncUps” and used that as the multicam source.
I need to get the edit into After Effects to do higher level keying & comping than can be done in Premiere.
I’d like to use Adobe dynamic link for individual shots but this doesn’t seem to work properly with multicam clips.
They get sent to After Effects & arrive as precomps to a master comp called “SyncUps”. Ok so far, but unfortunately no edits make it through so they only display the top layer of the SyncUps comp. The same happens if I import the Premiere project into after effects – multicam edits don’t work
How are you meant to work with Dynamic link & Multicam? In FCP you can collapse the multicam edits to normal edits I hear?
I understand I can work around this e.g. by rendering out the whole timeline/ dividing it into shots in AE & working on that as source footage, but would like to use the dynamic link if possible.

Wow that’s a great idea, I’ll try it out. I just came back to this thread to write out another possible solution, which is instead of sending to AE from Premiere, you create an AE project, go on File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Import Premiere Pro Sequence. It works pretty well, the only disadvantage being that all your changes in PP appear in AE, but it seems that if you change anything in AE it won’t change back in PP, so you have to finish your final exports from AE. It’s not that big of a drawback for me because it suits well my workflow, but I’ll take a look at that other method too. Cheers!

CS6 doesn’t have the Multicam>Flatten option. Looks like that’s a creative cloud update.. I’ve found a terribly time consuming workaround in which you right click>Replace with After Effects Composition. This creates a new comp in AE with the multicam precomposed in the comp, which results in you seeing camera 1 in you’re Premier sequence instead of the angle that you selected in your multicam. If you double click the precomposed layer in after effects that you just created, it will open up the original multicam stack and you can either delete or turn off all the layers except the camera angle that you want in your sequence. This updates in Premier, you see the proper angle in your timeline, and you can move forward as usual with your grade/compositing/etc in AE.
I’m about to dive into a music video with hundreds of multicam edits, so i’ll be doing hours upon hours of nonsense – wish me luck and I’ll catch you on the flipside. Or maybe I’ll just give in to Creative Cloud…… Damn.
