hi guys im wondering if its possible to do a multicam capture on finalcut and switch in real time while capturing…you see we want to produce a tv show and record it directly on our mac..without switchers or anything..

ive done this with a switcher on a matrox system..
but im wondering if this is possible by only connecting my cameras into my mac and just switch back and forth between them…

hope u can help me out..

    thanks

[arely bayardo] “hi guys im wondering if its possible to do a multicam capture on finalcut and switch in real time while capturing…”

No. FCP captures one stream at a time.

Why? What’s wrong with a switcher?

If you go with one mac, you’ll have to capture each tape one at a time…if multiple macs, then you can set one up to capture one camera angle. But know that FCP is a NON-LINEAR edit system, not a live switcher.

See…”with a switcher.” So even with another editing system you needed a switcher.

One firewire bus on a Mac, so one camera capture via firewire. Capture cards have ONE input…so one camera per card.

But…Hmmm…The Decklink Intensity Pro has something bundled with it called ON AIR…and you can install two of these into one computer so you can switch TWO cameras:

    “Live Production with On-Air 2.0

Experience the incredible excitement of filming events live. Included with Intensity is Blackmagic On-Air 2.0, which allows two Intensity boards to be plugged into Apple

Actually you can with Picture Ready. But will have to buy 2 Servers per Camera in order to do it.
http://www.pictureready.com. With Telestream coming out with there Pipeline Quad I don’t think it will be long before you will be able to do this though.

There are other ways, but still no exactly capturing one stream.
I’ve made an application that you can use to ‘switch’, either use the keyboard or listen to the tally lights of an external switcher.
You have to capture all your cams as iso. The output of my software is either an EDL to link to, or via optional software from Andreas Kiel, directly to multicam XML.
So not only have you instant result, you can ‘undo’ every cut you made.

Mail me direct if you want more info (or ask here)
