I’m losing my mind here. Can someone help me figure out what’s wrong with my Multicam workflow?

    Here’s exactly what I’m doing:

    1. I create a Multicam clip with two camera angles (A & B), a lav mic, a shotgun mic, and an interviewer mic so I can hear the questions being asked.
    2. I open the Multicam clip with **Open in Timeline** so I can see the synced tracks.
    3. I disable all audio tracks except for the lav mic track, which is on **A3**.
    4. I create a new timeline using that Multicam clip. This gives me a single audio track in the timeline.
    5. I set Camera A as the video angle and the lav mic as the audio angle — the waveform changes as expected.
    6. When I play the timeline… there’s no audio.

What step am I missing or doing wrong? Is it a bug? I am using Resolve 20.1 on a Mac Studio.

    Hi Chris!
This usually happens because disabling tracks inside the Multicam timeline doesn’t automatically tell Resolve which track should be the “master” audio source. Resolve expects you to define the audio angle in the Multicam properties or the Angle Editor. That’s why you’re seeing a waveform but not getting any playback.

    Solution:
    Check Multicam Clip Properties

Right-click the Multicam clip in the Media Pool → Clip Attributes.

Go to the Audio tab and make sure the lav mic is set as an active audio source and properly mapped (usually to A1).

    Use the Angle Editor

Instead of just disabling audio tracks in the Multicam timeline, open the clip in the Angle Editor (right-click → Open in Angle Editor).

Assign the lav mic as the active audio angle here — Resolve will then know which track to use.

    Pick Audio Angle in Timeline

Back on your edit timeline, right-click the Multicam clip → Switch Multicam Audio Angle → choose the lav mic.

You should now get both waveform and playback.

    Optional: Keep Other Mics Accessible

If you want the interviewer or shotgun mic later, don’t disable them completely in the Multicam. Leave them available and just switch audio angles when needed.

In short: muting tracks inside the Multicam timeline doesn’t set the audio angle. The fix is to assign the lav mic as the active audio source in the Multicam properties/Angle Editor, then select it as the audio angle in your timeline.

    Hi

If you disable the audio tracks inside the multicam it should also disable the video angle. Cause each video angle is attached to its own audio track.

Just switch the angle you need in the video track using the options below the source viewer.

I really appreciate your response, but none of those helped. When I right-click on the Multicam Clip, there is no option for Clip Attributes. Also, there is no Open in Angle Editor. I assume these are options for older versions of Resolve? Not sure?

I have tried creating a fresh Multicam clip, and keeping all of the tracks active in the Multicam clip, choosing the angle for video, and the angle for audio to be my lav mic, and the multicam clip is still does not have any sound during playback. The only way I can get sound to play, is to change the Multicam audio clip angle to be Camera A, but that is scratch audio, so I don’t want that. It must be something else I am doing wrong, but I have no idea what it is!

Ahh, I figured it out. I had to make each track Stereo in my Multicam, and then I could change the multicam audio angle to Lav, and it would playback! Still not totally sure why that is necessary, but at least it’s working now!
