Multicam Audio
I am using the Multicam function on Vegas Pro 9 for the first time and have a question. I have three separate camera video tracks and 5 audio tracks. How can I edit the video without affecting the audio mix? When I go into Multicam mode it piles the audio on to one track and I lose the mix. I need to edit the audio independant of the video. Is this possible?

Is there any reason that you can’t mix the audio first using one of the cameras as a “reference” track and then cut the video using your audio master?

Lay-up your multicam job, say four cameras for example. Sync them up as normal. If you have additional audio to put in create new audio tracks and drop in your media and sync those up with the rest of your tracks.
Next. On the track headers MUTE ALL audio tracks bar ONE. The one that you choose to be un-muted should be the one you are going to use as your main guide audio track for the switch. Now holding down the CTRL key go to the track headers and select all your video tracks and the one UN-MUTED audio track.
Next. Go to ‘Tools/Multicamera/Create Multicamera Track’. Once selected what will happen is that all you video tracks will collapse into the one Multicam video track you are used to but you will only have the one un-muted audio track as part of the switch process. All your other audio tracks are still there, still synced, visible but muted. They just aren’t currently part of the multicam switch audio. Now in the normal manner proceed with your ‘Tools/Multicamera/Enable Muticamera Editing’ and switch away.
When you have finished the video switch go back and un-tag ‘Enable Muticamera Editing’. Now you can un-mute all your audio tracks and do you multi-tack audio mix /levels as you wish. When happy with your audio mixdown render the one previously switched video track and all your new audio tracks out to one finished file. Voila! It’s switched and mixed.
Do it all the time and it works a treat.

I use Vasst Ultimate S 4.1 for this very reason, which keeps the video tracks paired with your audio. I can be editing 4 cams with an additional video track plus 2 miscellaneous audio tracks and it gets quite disconcerting to see the video tracks ‘collapsed’.
