Multicam and/or audio sync
I was just reading through the “Multicam fine cutting” thread and remembered I had a question similar, but different.
I’m doing some 2 camera multicam shoots for web tutorials. If all I need is to switch back and forth between the 2 clips, it works brilliantly. But, sometimes instead of switching, I want to stack the two clips, change the sizes and then have them side by side for a split-screen effect.
If I want the audio synced up, what’s the best way to keep the main multicam and also add the split screen view from time to time? I can bring in the second clip and manually eye ball the audio to sync it up to the multicam, but is there a more precise way of doing this? It seems that I can only sync up the audio (outside of the mulitcam) within the Event. It would be nice if I could sync the audio within the Project, but I don’t see a way to do it.
Hopefully, I’m just missing something simple or obvious.

So, you’ve got a big timeline of multicam cuts. At the point you want to do a split screen simply duplicate that clip on top of itself, set it to the other camera angle, and apply the appropriate transform to each clip to achieve a split screen. No real magic button, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Would be neat to have some sort of an additional format though… The usual Cam 1, Cam 2, Cam 3, PLUS a Custom 2 way split, Custom 3, Custom 4, etc.

Cool. Just to clarify, as I won’t be able to play with this for a few days, I’ve got the multicam in a Project with pre-made cuts and I take one of the segments and Option-drag above and change it to the other angle.
1. This is all done within the Project?
2. The new clip above will still allow me to right-click and choose a different angle?
The transform changes will be easy if I get it this far. I can verify in a few days, but I didn’t realize the new copied connected clip from the multicam would allow me to change it’s angle also.

Yep, you nailed it. Sometimes I’m amazed at how some things that seem like they would be a pain to do end up being quite simple. Yeah for multicam (and Bret)!
This is going to be perfect for tutorials where occasionally I want to switch camera views, but other times, a split-screen or a corner inset is what’s needed.
