After watching other approaches to doing multicam in X, I thought I could combine the best ideas and create a usable workflow. So my approach was to shrink my source video so I could see all the cameras at once then use markers to mark where I wanted to make my cuts. So after I put my markers on the audio track I selected all my tracks so I could blade through them all at once. My thought was that I could blade at each marker, then use the keyboard shortcut to go to the next marker and rinse and repeat. But if you try to do this going from beginning of your timeline toward the end, X deselects all the tracks after you do the razor cut. But if you go the other direction, from end to front, it keeps the tracks selected and allows you to go to the next marker and do another blade. But, for some reason it doesn’t respond to my next marker command every time on the first attempt. I have to hit the command several times before the playhead moves. Curious if others have this behavior. Another thing I noticed was as I had put my markers on the audio track, the position of the marker was subframe, so X had to put the cut on the closest video frame. Thinking this might be the cause of my marker navigation issue I tried putting markers on the video track but had the same issue.

Strange workflow going backwards. At least going backwards saved you some keystrokes.

I’m curious. What kind of codec was your footage, how many camera angles did you have and how did FCX play all of those streams? Did you switch to proxy?

I’m calling it FCX. They took the “pro” out, so I will too.
I’ll reconsider after the first upgrade.

I was only doing two cameras, HDV, full resolution, no proxy, without any playback problems. It was only trying to navigate the markers where it would not always respond to the command.

BTW, I liked the piece you put up the other day, and I liked your use of “cheese”, not too much, but enough for the attention-span-of-a-gnat eyballs audience you’re trying to connect to. Have you tried the earthquake transition yet? They were also kind enough to include the appropriate sound effects in the sound library.

Was the audio where you placed the markers a connected clip or was it in the primary storyline. Shortcuts tend to default to the primary storyline when something else isn’t selected so if the blade tool is deselecting the audio after a cut, that might be the solution. Or else have gap in the primary storyline and place the markers there.
