    Hi.

I know the AJA vs BM discussion have been raised a number of times. This is not one more of those posts. -;)

I have been planning to go for the Multibridge studio and monitor on either a Dell 24″ or a Cinemadisplay.
I am aware this is not optimal, but reading Graeme’s review of the HD-link, this seems to be my best bet as of budget, and at least… then I _have_ an inferior HD monitor solution… -;)

One thing that sold me on the BM solution was that they announce a PCI-X to PCIe adaptor, which would make the card survive an upgrade of my system at a later stage.

Problem is that this card is not shipping and noone knows when – excpt for “within six months”.

Does AJA have a similar solution which also covers monitoring through DVI?
It seems that AJA boxes support up- and downconversion in hardware. Is this true?
What about sound? I’ll need to mix surround from Cubase/Nuendo.

Also any experiences with AJA from PAL-land is appreciated.
I’m told that AJA is _the_ hit in NTSC land, while BM is king of the road in PAL land from my reseller, who sells them both.
They tell me that in PAL-land, there have been less problems with BM than AJA.

But then again, I don’t know what margins he has from each supplier… -;)

In reality that is never a good idea, buy the best you can afford and run it into the ground. by the time you need to upgrade a new machine – that $2000. (US) Capture board will have new features and you will want to upgrade again.

Yes AJA’s product is called the HDP and offers scaling of the video that the BMD does not.
All aja boards do conversion in Hardware only – that is correct also

Sound is supported for both of those apps on all Kona products.

    Thanks!

    So this means:
    AJA2
    + HDP
    + Breakout rackmount
    + 8ch AES/EBU to analogue DA/AD

is more or less the same specs?
    Am I right?

(I guess we’re comparing apples and oranges, but I’m just looking for the festure set at the moment. The one that can deliver when I order will sorta get it…)

The reason I’m thinking of the upgrade part is that I guess my current machine still have some time as an audio workhorse, after getting a new one for video. This might happen rather sooner than later, but I’ll need the capture card first.

    Catch22 -;)

I’d love to hear some AJA experinces from PAL land!

The Multibridge Studio will be a fantastic product when it gets released. As for a bridge card, I would not hold my breath. In the mean time, you can get the combination of the AJA Kona 2, AJA I/O and AJA HDP (total cost around $4700) and do the same thing. This stuff will work in your PCI-X MAC right now, and is a very powerful combination, all components are totally compatible, and readily available.

    Thanks a lot!

    This answers (finally) my question.

    Cost is 2200$ above, though… -;)
