Multibridge Pro vs. Multibridge Extreme —– Same?
Posted by Jonathan Steinhauser on December 8, 2007 at 6:52 amAre these two BMD products essentially the same except for the HDMI vs DVI-D ins and outs? The Multibridge Extreme still runs about $ 2500 at B & H and the Multibridge Pro is around $1500 street. I can’t find any info on the MBE on BMD’s site, just info on the MBpro. Was the MBE a precursor to the MBpro?
Any info helpful.

December 10, 2007 at 9:11 amBefore their last hardware upgrade of their multibridge line, the Multibridge Pro had some restrictions to what formats it could handle, whereas the Multibridge Extreme could do up to 10-bit 4:4:4 (if memory serves me right). Both these models have been replaced by the new Multibridge Pro and Multibridge Eclipse models, which both have dual-link and 3 Gb/s capacity.
The older hardware editions also don’t come with HDMI inputs. But have HDMI (Pro) and DVI (Extreme) monitor outputs.
This is from memory, so it should be taken with a grain of salt, but I don’t think there are any reason for buying an old Extreme model over a new Pro.

December 10, 2007 at 7:17 pmThanks for the info. You summarized more or less what I was able to find out even without info on the Multi Extreme on the BMD website. It is as if it has dissappeared from their view.

December 12, 2007 at 2:53 amHi Jonathan,
We’re no longer producing the Multibridge Extreme which is why it’s no longer on our website.
The main differences between Multibridge Pro and Extreme:
Pro | Extreme
=======================================HDMI (input/output) | DVI (output only)
2K I/O via 3 Gb/s SDI | 2K monitoring via DVI to 30″
Software downconversion| Hardware downversionregards

December 12, 2007 at 3:16 amWhat is the process / software needed for updating the firmware in a MBE? Is it available on your site?

December 19, 2007 at 11:41 pmOne huge difference for me is the split down conversion. The MBE will output HD and SD simultaneously. I do spots in both HD and SD- it’s really helpful to see how both version will look as you go.

December 20, 2007 at 6:51 amI was able to grab a MBE for about 2/3 of the cost of the MBPro on Ebay and it is working out very well… The split HD SD monitoring that you speak of is a bonus…. Thanks.
