  • Multibridge extreme and shake 4 – slow processing when BM is set as preview monitor

Posted by Justin Tan on March 30, 2006 at 2:17 am

Not sure if I am doing it incorrectly or not, but I have a 2 monitor setup plus the MBE which is hooked up to another monitor (so 3 in total)

In shake you can set the output to an “external” monitor – and in globals you can select 2 or 3. 2 being my second monitor and 3 being the MBE which is recognised as the 3rd monitor.

Problem is that if I set the preview out to the MBE (3rd monitor) things get SERIOUSLY slow, but as soon as I turn it off or set the preview monitor to 2 all is good…

anyone know why? Is there another way to do this?

I’ve noticed that as well. with playing back HD video files dragged over to the DVI-D from my MBE. Slow as molasses it plays, but move it over to the primary display with a 16x pci-e card and it plays fine.

I believe the MBE extended desktop lacks any accelaration features and thus gives very slow performance.

The workaround I’m pondering is a DVI-D switch that can go between the second DVI-D output of my 16x pci-e video card and the multibridge extreme thus having your cake and eating it too.

Shake seems to use Open GL processing so that’s probably why the Decklink monitor would slow it down (no OpenGL).

In Combustion, you can output to an NTSC monitor from Decklink as a framebuffer, without enabling decklink as an extra display monitor on the desktop. Perhaps Shake has such a setting?

Option ‘B’ is to get an Nvidea 4500 card with HD-SDI output and use that. (Just kidding.)
