  • multibridge 5.4.1: ‘Device missing’

Posted by Arjen Abbestee on February 15, 2006 at 11:12 am

I just spend some time trying to install the 5.4.1 driver update for my multibridge. After the install I have a desktop on my PAL monitor, suggesting the driver works, but when opening Final Cut it complains the video component is missing. When I go to Audio/Video settings there are no options avaialble. Not even Firewire. Same in After Effects. I tried uninstalling the decklik software first, I tried overwriting the old drivers but it just does not work.
After re-installing the old drivers (and downgrading the firmware) all is fine again. Except for the noisy fan of course…
    I’m on a Quad PCI-E G5.

    Anybody else seeing this? Suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Arjen

    Hi!

We have the same issue, you need to feed a reference signal into the SDI input of the MB extreme before starting it up. This fixed it for us. It is a pain in the neck, the last driver update seemed to fix this problem at first but we have the same issue again.

    Good luck

Thanks. Is this a one time thing or do I need an SDI input at every restart, program switch etc.?

Well, just did a new install of the 5.4.1 drivers, made sure there was a signal on the SDI input (colorbars from the Digibeta deck) but still no go…
Back to the old drivers with the noisy fan…

    Hi guys,

After installing the v5.4.1 drivers and restarting, were you prompted to update the firmware on the Multibridge Extreme?

    regards

    Hi Kristian,

Yes I was (or else I would not have noticed the noise reduction in the fan). And again after re-installing the old drivers.
I don’t know what goes wrong, my broadcast monitor shows the desktop so there is at least some connection between the computer and the multibridge. But both Final Cut and after Effects complain about the video device missing…
In 5.2.3 everything seems to be fine.

    Hi!

Yes, we were prompted to updated and did do the firmware update. As I said, it did help at first, but now it is back to the same problem.

    greetings

Oh, and when I say all is well in 5.2.3, I lied… Deck control is not always frame accurate. When I edit to tape, sometimes it’s one frame too late. So something that should start at 2:30:00 starts at 2:30:01. When I try several times sometimes it’s OK, sometimes it isn’t. Seems that the longer the sequence the higher the risk of inaccurate timing. (Since we deal in commercials for 90 % of the time, a long sequence for me is anyting over three minutes).
Because this is a ‘sometimes’ thing, it’s very annoying. It’s not a matter of setting the frame offset. I always have to check if the edit to tape is frame accurate. If not I have to redo several times until the timing is correct…
I have had this problem before when I was just using the Decklink HD-Pro but then it was gone after the first driver update.

I too can confirm that this issue reappears on version 5.4.1, it was fine for about a week and then today just failed on us. Had to downgrade back to 5.2.3.

    Hi Juan,

Do you recall when it reverted back to the old issue? Was it after a restart? Did you power it down at the end of the day and then it won’t start the next morning?

Yep. But I never had these issues with 5.2.3 only when we first installed the 5.4 drivers.
