In case it is needed, allow me to clarify before my query that I have the entire CS3 suite, including Bridge, for what it’s worth. Now, say you have 2 completely separate projects, ProjectA and ProjectB, but they contain files common to both projects. You setup both to show you what assets are used and unused in your timelines. You then want to delete the unused assets in ProjectA, BUT WAIT! Some of those assets unused in ProjectA may be used assets in PorjectB. Is there a way, without writing down the name of every file to be deleted from the hard drive, to delete unused assets in ProjectA without deleting the ones that are used in ProjectB. It wouldn’t be such a concern if indeed I only had a ProjectA and B; the problem is I have a Project A through almost to Z that contain some of the same files. I want to get rid of all the unused files without going through every single project and trying to figure out the common files. What I really want is for PPro to tell me something like “WARNING: the file you are attempting to delete is used in ProjectK. Are you sure you want to delete this file?”

Sorry, but there is no way for one project to know what footage another project is using, or not using.

NEAT! I’m enjoying the my Axio quite a bit, but this is one area that both my Avid and subsequently VelocityQ definitely had going for them over PPro. Oh well – better get out the nptebook and start writing down files.

    Thanks again,

Well, you could import Proj B into Proj A and you will then all the files used in both projects. You can then safely delete unused.

    Hop,

One option is to use the Project Management function to make copies of projects. This will gather all the assets of a project and copy them to a new location. You can copy only the used parts of the media (plus handles values you specify) or copy the whole media file.

This will mean that if a file is used in Project A and B that two files will exist where there was only one before. Maybe that is undesirable or maybe not. But it would greatly simplify your media management.

Once you are certain that the copied projects are functioning properly you can delete the original files/folders to free up drive space.

you could try importing one project into the other and then running project manager to eliminate unused files – put on a fresh pot of coffee as this can take a while.

These are good points. The only concern I have is that, with this being a 30 minute TV show with recurring files in each episode, there are literally 26 episodes (read 26 projects) to deal with. I could try to do as you suggest, but you can surely see the issue with that. My other idea was to create a project and import all the other propjects, but in my experience, PPro will totally freak out on the number of Sequences and files that would end up in one project. The suggestions here do give me some ideas, however. I’m going to use elements of these ideas and see what I can come up with.
