Here’s my scenerio, I have several objects in my scene which animate around each other. One helicopter, one logo and many flying ribbons. I assign a Composite tag and turn on object buffer and give each object a specific buffer number. Then I enable Multi-pass rendering in render settings. Then Assign each Object buffer Channel. Each object is pretty heavy with Reflection texture. So I enable Reflection Channel. Great, so far so good. I render and get several layers—-sort of.

Here’s my question and problem. One, it’s an animation that I’m compositing in After Effects so I’m assuming I use Quicktime as my file type(which is what i normally use with separte alphas) in Multipass rendering. Two, I will be wiping and masking each layer on in After Effects but still want to have each object reflecting off each other so Rendering out separately in batch rendering I didn’t think was the solution. Plus, if I need more or less reflection I want to re-render only that and not the whole scene again. Three, do I have to render out RGBA channel each time for multi-pass rendering to work ? I tired to render out just my reflection channel without anything else and it didn’t appear to work ?! Four and probably a stupid ass question, but once in After Effects I’m assuming I additive Key my Reflective/Refraction/Ambient, etc, etc. Cause seems to give me some unwanted results. Oh, and do I want render out all separate channels anyway when all I care about is the shadows and reflections.

I’m sorry for the rambling but I’m so freaking confused. I’m just trying to figure this out and the manual isn’t helping answer some basic questions. I have done millions of test renders, but my deadline is approaching here at my little tv station. Thanks for any guidance, help, feedback or just for telling me to screw off and figure it out.
