I am assisting a church in streamlining their video production of their services. They use 2 cameras and switch a line feed through a small mixer. Then they digitize the material and add graphics in Adobe Premiere. Premiere does not have a way to cut mulit-cam live. Is there anyway of feeding both cameras into Final Cut and cutting the service live in there instead of doing a line cut through a mixer and then posting it? If so, how can that be done? They would like to cut out the step of editing to tape first. And they would like more control of the posting(trimming ect). If it can be done, then I will make a suggestion that they buy Final Cut. Thanks

In essence no, FCP is a post production tool not a live production one .. but it can be done

Other solutions might include Softron’s MovieRecorder to simultaneously capture the ISO feeds and the line cut feed for a quick turnaround (as it lets you access the captured footage whilst it is still being ingested). Or you might want to look at Big Mug Software’s Capture Magic as a similar multiple simultaneous ingest option (although that one doesn’t let you access the material until the ingest is complete).

I think you’re looking for something like a NewTek TriCaster:

If you want to cut the tape out of the workflow, why not ingest from the mixer directly into Premiere?

If you want to step up from the line mixer, FCP is not really the tool for the job.

    Look into the NewTek Tricaster.
