  • Multi-Cam Sequence Rendering Black Clips

Posted by John Davies on April 20, 2017 at 8:38 am

I have a 2hr multi-cam sequence, which keeps throwing black clips out at random.

The thumbnail for the black clips is still showing correctly on the timeline, but I have to ‘re-link’ the clips by selecting a different camera and then changing it back to the original camera. It is always the same clips that render as black, but I can see no correlation between them. They are all without effects, and the problem is affecting different camera layers.

The sequence with the multi-cam edit is nested into a larger sequence, and I can see the clips changing from footage to black when I switch back to the main sequence that holds the multi-cam edit. I originally thought it was only upon export, but it seems that the footage only disappears when I switch sequences.

I’ve tried exporting the multi-cam sequence alone, without it being nested, and I get the same issue.

    Any help appreciated!

Which of the 3 codecs is your footage you are having an issue with?
What is your sequence settings set to?
Did you render anything in that area of the clip going black?
Did you try and purge your media cache for the render if you did?
Any plugins applied to the clip in question?
Any rogue keyframes in the clip in question?
Have you tried creating a new project and importing your problem multicam sequence through the media browser?
    Which exact version of CC2017?

To add to what Andy has already asked.

    1. What GPU/driver version do you have?
    2. Have you tried disabling your GPU?

    Thanks,

I had the same problem. Some random shots in a Multicam edit would show in the Program view, and in the render as black.

I disabled the GPU Acceleration in the Project settings and now it all works.

    This is very annoying.
