  • Multi-cam Preview Not Showing Up

Posted by Ken Bennett on January 28, 2010 at 11:24 pm

I’m just getting into multi-cam editing with Vegas Pro 9. I’m used to doing mutli-cam editing with 5 to 6 cameras in another NLE. I’ve watch a few training DVDs and looked in the online manual but nowhere do I see where I can enable multi-cam views in the preview window. I’m only seeing the top cam. And I do have Multi-cam editing turned on.

When a CTRL+A it will select all the tracks, but does nothing else. In the demo this operation shows all the tracks becoming one. Not happening!

    What’s wrong???

    Thanks,

    The steps are:

    1. Ctrl+A to select all the tracks
    2. Tools | Multicamera | Create Multicam Track to build the single track containing all cameras as takes
    3. Tools | Multicamera | Enable Multicamera Editing (Ctrl+Shift+D) to turn the multicamera view on and off in the preview window

    That’s pretty much it!

    Thanks, John.

I’m trying to figure out a good workflow. A wedding. Opening video all on one track. Followed by a 2-cam ceremony. Can these be mixed and matchs in the same project? Can I only select the 2-cam tracks and create a multi-cam edit?

    Thanks.

You can have as many single or multi-cam tracks as you want in a project. Just select only the tracks that you want to multi-cam edit and have it create the master track. Then select some more tracks and create another master track. Each multi-cam track will only contain the tracks you have selected to place in it.

So it looks as though my workflow would be to first color correct all the cameras before creating a multi-cam single track (making any adjustments needed to the events. As far as editing the audio, in this case both cameras have 2 tracks of audio, do I need to duplicate these audio tracks so I can edit the audio? Just trying to find a quick way to work so I don’t waste time doing things the hard way.

    Thanks

No, anything you do to a track or event will be lost when you enter multi-cam mode because all events become takes on the master track. You must color correct at the media level from the media pool. Go to project media and right-click and add a Media FX. You can keep the audio as separate tracks.
