Got a documentary coming in. Part of it involves a music concert shot on 4 BMD 2k cameras. The main audio is coming from a sound vehicle, which will be doing the recording and mixing.

The camera dept wants to simply connect a microphone to each cameras to grab a basic reference track, and then use Autosync to line everything up.

If (a big if) they can get halfway decent audio it might actually work? Or not?

Time code slates would be ideal, but alas, no money for that fancy stuff.

I’ve been editing for a good many years now but have had very little experience with multicam. Any suggestions much appreciated.

That should work just fine. I do it like that all the time. PPro syncs clips to audio quite well (perfectly in most of my experiences) and can handle all sorts of different fidelities. I’m working on a Construction/Restoration show right now and interviews recorded on as eparate audio sync easily with the camera captured audio where you can barely hear the diaglogue over the buzz and whine of all the machinery and tools.

Then patching where that audio shows up in your multicam clip and cut is a breeze.
