“Muddy” MP4 output in CS4
Still using CS4 for uncomplicated edits.
When I output timeline to Adobe Media Encoder CS4, the conversion
to MP4 lacks the clarity of the original footage. I use the h264
settings. Any easy way to improve the brightness and clarity of the
output? I believe I output the highest quality settings. (I think.)
i.e. How can I avoid a kind of “muddy” look.Thanks

What bit rate did you use?

I set the bit rate to VBR, 1 pass
Target Bitrate 3
Maximum Bitrate 6I “volunteered” to do a short YouTube piece for some folks and
it stutters online. Also YT says these are their standards…Video codec: H.264
Progressive scan (no interlacing)
High Profile
2 consecutive B frames
Closed GOP. GOP of half the frame rate.
CABAC
Variable bitrate. No bitrate limit required, though we offer recommended bit rates below for reference
Chroma subsampling: 4:2:0Don’t understand some of this stuff. I did h264 on 16:9.

Well it could be stuttering on youtube because of the buggy implementation
of html5 on firefox. (if they were viewing it that way)Chrome plays youtube videos much smoother.
anyhoo, whenever I do youtube or other online videos
I always do a 5mb target, 5mb max vbr and the quality
of picture is usually great.
