Hello. I’m new to this site and for my first post, I need a little advise. First off, I taught myself FCP and therefore there are some i’s not dotted and t’s not crossed when it comes to my technical skill. I currently use FCP 7

I’m going to be working on a project that was shot with a Panasonic AVCCAM. The files are all MTS files and the person currently with the footage wants to know what kind of format i want them converted to.
Being that I have never had to deal with converting MTS files before, I’m not sure what the best approach would be. Other HD projects I have worked on I used Quicktime with an MPEG-2 codec. Should I just have him convert them to those? Sorry if that’s a silly question.

    Cheers,
    ~Aaron

I’d have him convert them to ProRes files.

You might want to get the raw files and log and transfer them yourself. File > Log and Transfer.

This way you can log the footage to your liking and you’ll earn something in the process. 😉

At the end of the Log and Transfer process, you will have ProRes files.
