MPG to AVI?

There’s no way to bring MPG natively into particleIllusion or any sort of fix that would let you. Some video editing programs will let you import MPG and save it as AVI, but if yours doesn’t you can always grab VirtualDub, which will do that and a whole lot more.

Here’s a little gem of a program that I use regularly:

AVS Media – Video Tools

Of special interest is the Video Convertor utility as part of the suite:

Convert between all video formats: AVI (DivX, XviD, etc.), DV AVI, MP4 (inc. Sony PSP and Apple iPod), WMV, 3GP, 3G2, QuickTime (MOV, QT), SWF, DVD, VOB, VRO, MPEG 1,2,4, MPG, DAT, VCD, SVCD, ASF, MJPEG, H.263, H.264, Real Video (RM, RMVB), DVR-MS.

I got Virtual Dub, in fact I already had it, but when I try to import an MPG file, it gives me this error:
“MPEG Import Filter: invalid pack at position 3; marker bit not set; possibly MPEG-2 stream”

How can I fix this?

Will the next PI release handle mpg formats ?

Could be that for whatever reason Virtualdub doesn’t like the MPEGs that your camera makes. Another possible solution is MediaCoder, though I haven’t used it myself.
