  • MPG file missing audio when bringing into FCP

I have an mpg file from a client that does not bring the audio in with it. The audio plays with the clip on every player I try it on (Quicktime, Windows Media, VLC), yet FCP only imports the video track. First, why is this and second, how do I get the audio portion into FCP? Incidently, I do not have Quicktime Pro for some reason. I had it when I first got FCP back with version 3, but somewhere along the line, an upgrade seems to have nullified it and now none of my registration codes work for it (I have 3 systems that all got FCP3 at the same time). I’m currently running FCP4.5 on G4 dual867’s.
    Thanks for any help.

That update would have come with QT Pro 6. If you’ve upgraded to QT 7 then you’ve lost your QT Pro functionality. You can spend $30 for QT 7 Pro or wait until you buy FCP 5.

And FCP doesn’t support mpeg. Export mpeg with QT Pro or other program like compressor to a quicktime mov format.

Actually, the best bet is to google and download MPEG Streamclip. It will demux the MPEG1 and spit out a format that will play nice with FCP. There’s also Cinematize, which is not free, but gives you more options.
