Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy MPEG2 into FCP

  • Posted by Andrew Timms on May 28, 2007 at 12:14 am

    Hi All –

I have some MPEG2 files that have been exported out of Premiere Pro 2 using Adobe’s compressor app. They have the file extension .mpg and have video/audio (multiplexed?) into the one file.

I import them into FCP but only get video. Now I know FCP is used to seeing separate Video/Audio files but is there any way I can get it to play ball with these files short of getting them re-outputted for me?

    Many thanks.

If you had them send you a tape, you’d have better video, but you can demux the MPEG file you have now and work with it with “MPEG Streamclip”… https://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html

Still would look better if it hadn’t been cremated by MPEG 2…

    Hi Jerry –

What a great app. Thanks for that.

Yeah – I’d rather have the tape also but it is our old showreel logo that only exists as MPEG2 plus a bunch of historical files that are on Beta SP tapes that are frame-drop central.

    Cheers again for your help.
