    …I’m importing DVDs to timeline with the new feature in Vegas 6c … when I make some editing & changes, will Vegas make a recompression (re-rendering) of the original mpeg2 files ? (with the corresponding loss of quality on these files) … I’m asking because a DV-AVI only “renders” the transitions or changes to a new AVI (well, as far as I know….)…

    Is Vegas now a powerful mpeg editor ?

    Yes. Every frame will be decompressed and recompressed – with the corresponding loss of quality – when using MPEG2 files.
