I have been editing a PAL project that is mainly stills and some live footage. I am trying to export an MPEG2 file which is what is needed by my client to project in an Art Gallery. All my perameters on the time line sequence appear correct but I don’t seem to be able to make a generic mpeg2 file, any ideas please.

You cant directly from FCP. Export as Quicktime movie (not self contained). Drag the Quicktime reference into Compressor and encode there.

You can also use the “Send To Compressor” command (but may be slightly cleaner), but the encode will take longer
