MPEG2 audio out of sync
Posted by Warren on August 11, 2006 at 4:32 pmWhen I import an MPEG2 file into Premiere, the audio is offset. Any idea why or how I can fix it? The file plays with audio in sync in other players, such as Windows Media.
Thanks.
More info:
Files were originally ouput from a DVR as D-VHS stream, captured on my harddrive using a freeware program CapDVHS

August 11, 2006 at 8:56 pmPremiere Pro is a professional editing application and not designed to edit highly compressed files, such as MPEG2 captured from DVRs.

August 11, 2006 at 9:02 pmThanks for the response. But isn’t HDV an mpeg2 variant? I’ve upgraded Premiere with the HDV codec.

Yes, HDV is an MPEG2 variant. However, MPEG2 content from DVRs are not the same as MPEG2s generated from HDV cameras. Also, MPEG2 can have a lot of different characteristics. To help you out better, please answer the following:a) Frame Size
b) Bit-Rate
c) Project Settings?Aanarav Sareen

The mpeg file is
1920X1080
29.97 frames/sec
2500 kbps
Qf (whatever that is) O.402Premiere project settings are the HDV 1080i presets. Audio is in sync when played in the project window player and source monitor, but lags about 9 seconds when dropped onto the timeline and rendered. Similar situation if the source file is SD and brought into standard NTSC settings.
Again, many thanks for the help.

March 27, 2007 at 3:20 pmHey Warren,
I seem to have the same problem with my PAL Adobe HDV 1080 50i preset. I am able to capture from my HDV camera OK and when viewed in media player the files are OK but in Premiere the audio falls out of sync over time. This is a new problem for me and it only happend when I formatted my computer and re-installed it all. I’ve been manualy cropping the audio to re sync it but I have a large project that I’ve been working on for a few months and I dont want to have to do it to the entire project.
Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Steve
