  MPEG2 1080i 29,97: Compressor shows me as 23,98 progressive

  Hi,

  I am a new Mac User (I have Imac I7 2011 with Lion 10.7.3) and I am starting to use Compressor 4 for my needs.

  In these days I would like to use Compressor 4 with some files (to reencode them to H264 to save space), tipically mpeg program stream, 1920x1080i, Video MPEG2, 29.97fps (with pulldown), Audio AC3 5.1.

  If I import one of these files in Compressor, Inspector window shows me this file as progressive 23,98 fps.

  Mediainfo, Videospec, ImediaHUD, ffmpeg or QT Player shows me (correctly) 29,97 interlaced.

  Do you know why Compressor shows me wrong informations about frame rate?

  I inspected MPEG Header and I found flag frame_rate_code=4 in the sequence_header section and, to the best of my knowledge, this means 29.97 fps.

  Due to this Compressor’s behavior I can’t apply (without loss of sync) reverse telecine from 29.97 to 23.976 and I am stuck.
