Can somebody tell me please wich are the mpeg-1 standard frame sizes and if some of them are letterbox?

If you want a 16×9 clip in MPEG-1, it must be letter-boxed.
The Toast MPEG-1 encoder used to have few option to frame the picture.

March 18, 2010 at 11:36 ammpeg 1 works in ffmpeg with whatever size you give it.
% ffmpeg -i fluid.mov -sameq intermediate.mpg
A 1024×576 frame size came out at 8 Mbps and looks stunning.
It is especially useful as a high quality intermediate to stitch tops/tails etc. before final encoding.
