    hey guys
i took news footage and used mpeg streamclip to put it into a fcp project. i did it with apple pro res. i put it in the timeline and it all looked good until i rendered it and rewatched it. now, the news footage is huge! the tops of the reporters heads are chopped off and the words on the bottom of the screen are missing on the sides… it is a disaster… any thoughts??? oh and yes, we have been cleared to use the news footage.

Since ProRes can be any pixel dimension, and since a sequence can be any codec, any format, any pixel dimension, we need more precise info. It certainly does sound as if your sequence settings and media are a mismatch.

this will quickly get above my head, let me try my best and my lack of knowledge is going to probably lead me to a big fat wall of confusion:
i shot interviews in 720p on a Firestore. That is the footage that is making up most of my timeline. Then the news footage is 4:3 standard def. I simply opened MPEG streamclip and did export to quicktime, and in the compression dropdown box I chose apple prores 422 (the first of the two prores 422 choices).
does this answer the question at all?

It sounds as if FCP is scaling the 4×3 footage to match the 720p footage. So, double click the 4×3 footage to load it into the viewer, then click on the Motion Tab in the viewer and change the scale to 100 which will be native, or to some other size that you choose. Does this make sense?

sure enough! that was it, man, sorry such a lame question! glad it was that simple though. now, i just got to see if i can get it small enough to throw some widescreen letterbox on there to make it match the rest of the project…
    thanks so much
