MPEG Streamclip licensing?
Not the right forum to ask probably, but I figure there’s an Avid user out there who can answer this.
We’re a TV station that uses Streamclip to transcode MPEG files into something that our aged Media Composer 2.2.10 can read. These files are finished commercial spots received from local clients, CNN, etc.
Our IT department has now declared that Streamclip is being used in violation of MPEG LA terms in that we or Squared5 software are not paying royalties for access to the MPEG codecs. With so many folks using Streamclip for commercial purposes, I find it hard to believe MPEG LA hasn’t shut down Squared5 for copyright issues already.
Section 2.1 is what IT is using to claim we are in non-compliance.

Any broadcasters out there willing to weigh in on this?
TIA
