    Hey,

I captured hdv(sony Z6) footage in Premiere that came in as mpeg files(?)
The footage looks great but the program doesnt realy work that well. It doesnt play well, sometimes it doesnt play at all.

When previewing it from the finder with quicktime player. the finder crashes and quicktime does aswell.
I can play it with vlc player however.

    What could be the problem?
Im dealing with 11 hours of footage here.

Anyone had the problem? I found some similar post but no answers..

    Thx

I haven’t updated to HD yet, so I could be mistaken. But, My understanding of MPEG is that is a delivery format, as opposed to an editing format (such as Uncompressed, DV, etc).
I understand that very powerful editing workstations can handle these files (HDV).

Although you can often open these compressed files in an editor, they require an insane amount of processing power to actively decompress in an editing environment.

Consider converting your source to a more appropriate editing format such as Cineform Aspect HD, Edius HQ or Apple ProRes 422, prior to editing.

Regarding QuickTime, I’m not sure now, but QT used to require the MPEG2 Plugin from Apple.

    Hope this helps 🙂
