    i do have specs for pro res, but I ended up using streamclip to convert archival files to HDV 1080i60 (same as other footage) and it worked like a charm. thanks again for all the help.

    Not really true. I cannot get consistent playback with a dual 2ghz G5. Its definitely not the drives…they are fast enough for uncompressed HD….its the processors that cant keep up. I can do the odd clip here and there in Pro Res, but try to do real editing and it becomes impossible.

    Odd, as I have a dual 2.3ghz machine and have no issues playing ProRes.

    I guess its that extra .3GHZ that makes all the difference 🙂
