mPEG-2 Muxed?
Posted by Jon Boffa on June 4, 2008 at 10:31 pmI am having trouble exporting to an MPEG-2 file w/ audio.
I edited w/ MPEG-2 kind files with MPEG2 Muxed codecs, and this is what they want in return.
I exported via Compressor to MPEG-2 type but it only has the video, no audio…
How can I export to the kind/codec type given to me?Ken Doll replied 17 years, 11 months ago 3 Members · 4 Replies -

What you are trying to do is to create an “MPEG2 Transport Stream,” which can be done in Compressor, but not via the DVD setups, which as you already know, only encode separate audio and video files. The MPEG2 transport stream is a user selection when creating an original setting from scratch. Try it yourself or check in the online manual in Compressor’s help mneu.

June 4, 2008 at 11:42 pmThanks.
I checked the “Multiplexed MPEG-1/Layer 2 Audio” box under the Extras tab in the Compressor Inspector. It outputted a .m2t file that was not readable by QT. I then changed the Extension in Inspector to “.mpg” and it had the same results.
I followed the Compressor manual, so not sure what I’m doing wrong? -

QT does not typically read .m2t files. Use Mpeg Streamclip to view that file. It sounds like you did everything right. An, give th eclient two versions, one with the .m2t extention and one that you’ve changed to .mpg.
BTW, I just tested the same and yes the file play in Mpeg Streamclip exactly as I suggested.
Oh, and you may want to raise the quality substancially in the quality tab of the Inspector if your client is using this for broadcast. I don’t know what the numbers are for that though. You should ask the client to specify.

June 9, 2008 at 1:00 amWhat version of Compressor are you using? The current version in Studio 2 allows you to create a muxed MPEG. Click on the inspector tab and then the second tab Encoder and then on Extras. Under Mpeg-2, check MPEG-1/Layer 2 audio and then select Program stream. This will give you a file with the MPEG extension that will play in quicktime or even a windows machine. I use it to encode for our Nexus video sever that runs on a windows machine. I just have to delete the E in MPEG in order for our Nexus to play it. In the previous version of Compressor I did have to use MpegStreamclip to get an MPEG file.
