mp4v Mpeg4 not recognized in Vegas
Posted by Joe Mantaratz on February 11, 2010 at 2:08 amVegas does not recognize the format, VlC will play it and Gspot identifies it as the above mentioned. Also have the latest QT installed as well but no help. I’m running Vegas 8.0b….seems like a bad week for files. Again thanks for all the help.

February 11, 2010 at 3:57 amDid GSpot say that you have a codec for it? I believe that Xvid will handle files with a fourcc of mp4v. Do you have Xvid installed?

February 11, 2010 at 4:11 amNo John it did not show I had the codec installed. What is odd is I have another file same exact report from GSpot and that one will import. It is a much smaller file however. Where do you recommend installing XVID?
On another note relating to the EX1 native format problem mentioned in a prior post. It writes to SMS cards that are MPG4 and must be converted using XDCAM explorer to MXF format. I have those native files but cannot find a way to convert them with anything I have here. So my only option that I see now is to put those files back into the camera and capture them on my system. It has been one of those weeks.

If these are EX1 files and you have Vegas Pro 8.0 then you need to use the XDCAM Explorer in Vegas Pro 8.0. It is not enabled by default. You have to go into the General Preferences and enable it and restart Vegas Pro. Then it will show up. I assume that you don’t have Vegas Pro 9.0 because Vegas Pro 9.0 includes native support for XDCAM.

February 12, 2010 at 2:34 pmI found out that I needed to download the XDCAM explorer from Sony and use that to convert the native files to MXF for NLE. You navigate to the folder and select all the clips to be batch processed. It works well from what I see and it would have saved me a lot of time had I known this before. LIve and learn.
