I have an old video file, the extension is “.MP4” but in the info it says MPG2. It appears to be damaged or incomplete. I have tried bringing it into CS6 premiere, adobe media encoder, mpeg streamclip, compressor, FCP7, quicktime 7, and none of them accept it. When I drag it into media encoder is says “File has no importable streams”

My goal is to convert it for upload to the web. Currently it’s like 20 minutes and 5GB. Too big. The file will only open for playback in VLC and MPlayerX. It plays back in full with no issues. Any idea what program I can get to convert this thing? Help

Make a copy of the file and change the extension to mpg. If that does not work, use MediaInfo to verify the codec.

Tried changing the extension to .mpg with no such luck. DLed Mediainfo and it says Video codec used: MPEG-2 Video. Any idea what I can do from here?

That confirms it is not MP4. Try changing the extension to .mpeg, .vob, or maybe .m2v.
