I am on Sony Vegas 9c.

I am rendering AVCHD 1280x720p files to mp4 and progressively playing the mp4 through Flash. I have been largely indifferent between Sony or MainConcept. However, I just discovered that the MainConcept files don’t allow me to use the seek bar in Flash. If you drag the seek bar to the right, it pops back to the beginning of the file and restarts the movie. When I recoded the file in Sony, the seek bar works fine.

My thinking (which might be wrong) is that Flash uses keyframes to seek, and MainConcept is not putting them in, whereas Sony does. But I cannot see where either codec allows me to specify the number of keyframes. I tried increasing the Reference Frames in MainConcept, but that did not work.

    What am I missing?

Vegas isn’t offering you a controllabl option. You’ll likely note that Sony files are slightly larger than MC, but you’ll also likely note the MC is slightly better in quality.
Chapter flags should be passing in MC, however.

I find the MainConcept files are about 10% smaller and slightly crisper. I tried rendering a file using the Save Project Markers in Media File option, but that did not help. I assume that is how you save chapters for other applications to recognize.

I guess I’ll need to use the Sony codec for this purpose.

By the way, I have your Vegas 8 book and find it very useful. Looks like I need to upgrade to 9.
