Hi, I’ve got some MP4 video files on a CD, and I’m trying to get them in to Symphony (v5.0.3 on Windows 2000), but it won’t play ball.

Symphony takes an age to import each file, and I end up with a completely white image (like a still of white)

The clips play fine on the XP machine in the office, but not on version of Media player on the Avid, nor do they play on my iBook (thru Windows Media Player or Quicktime).

Any hints on how to convert the files into something I can use?

Use another system with the latest version of QuickTime Pro. Convert to Meridien codec based QT movie.

That doesn’t work in Quicktime Pro on my PowerBook (still just a white screen when the files open up), but is it likely to work if I can get on a Win XP machine with QT Pro?

White screen wit QT means the lack of proper codec or just plain codec incompatability. I would just bring it to another system with the latest QT Pro and see if it works.
