I have a problem that’s proving rather bizarre and I’m stumped — hoping someone can help!

I use Evaer to record Skype calls in MP4 format and put them over game footage in Sony Vegas. It has worked fine up until this point. The latest Skype recording crashes Sony Vegas when I import it and will not play in VLC player or QuickTime player. I tried it in Adobe Premiere as well and the audio works but the video plays too fast (outrunning the audio). I tried running it through handbrake but handbrake takes about 15 minutes to go from 00.00% to 00.03% and then says it’s finished, though no file was output.

I thought I just had a borked recording and I was screwed, but the funniest part: the file opens and plays with no problem in Windows Media Player. I thought maybe then that I could run the file through Windows Movie Maker, and while it does import and preview properly in that program, saving the project file just hangs at 0% with no progress.

I’m really hoping that I didn’t completely lose a session, and I’m hopeful that there’s a solution somewhere because the file plays fine in Windows Media Player. Any ideas?!

To follow up to my own post in case anyone else finds a similar problem, I was able to use VLC to convert the file (to MP4 again) and that made the files playable in VLC, albeit with corrupted audio. They still didn’t import into Sony Vegas, but after the VLC convert, THEN I was able to run them through Handbrake. All is now well!

The audio is corrupt but luckily, I had a discreet audio file to use for this project so it was no loss. Crisis averted!

Curious, what encoder does Evaer use?
